Education and the Aesthetic Experience | Teachers College, Columbia University | Spring 2024
“Lately, I've been inspired by the possibilities between the intersection of everyday aesthetics and somaesthetics in dance-making. For me, there is a feeling of peace, certainty, and presence brought about by "pedestrian movement" (as we call it) in dancing: how one can tease out motifs from simple, everyday movement and build it into a specific, bound aesthetic experience of dance, especially in improvisational work where you follow your body's impulses before the mind can take over.
I filmed this short improvisational phrase based on this idea, enjoying the beams of sunlight, the sounds of the wood floor (+ my bones!) creaking, riding slight weight shifts and feeling my own inhales and exhales as they flow with my movement.”
